18Th Century Welsh Stick Chair.

A rare 18th century five legged Welsh Stick chair. This incredibly sculptural chair has evolved over the centuries as with most Welsh vernacular furniture items were repaired and made good by using what ever materials were to hand and with this amazing chair legs were added  spindles replaced and extra timbers gained to strengthen. the colours and patina of this chair is quite extraordinary, as most of its life lived next to a large fire hearth in Cardiganshire. This chair was photographed by National Museum of Wales in situ next to the fire hearth for a Welsh cookery book  published in 1976 called “Welsh Fare” A section of traditional recipes by S.Minwel Tibbott.
