19Th Century Scumble Painted Chest Of Drawers.

£650.00

19Th Century Welsh scumble painted chest of drawers signed and dated  “Narbeth October 19Th 1872.” This chest of drawers is one of the best scumble painted chest of drawers we have had, its beautifully painted in a faux walnut paint effect, the chest is in amazing condition, with blue paper lining in all the drawers,  written inside the carcass of the chest in pencil ” Narbeth 19Th October 1872″ and also the furniture makers name which is hard to make out, obviously very proud of there work to sign and date the chest.

Narbeth in Pembrokeshire South Wales was a hub of furniture makers, scumble painted furniture was very common in the provincial areas of Wales as most farmers couldn’t afford the more exotic woods which where more common in affluent parts of England so they wood simulate wood grain effects by painting the furniture.
